Teamsters Rally to Say “Shame on You Sony!”

Earlier this month, members of Teamster Local 814 – along with community leaders and members of additional labor unions – rallied outside of the Sony headquarters in New York City to protest their decision IMG_8276to hire Sher-Del Transfer, a member of the Metropolitan Movers Alliance, to perform their relocation to the Flatiron district. Unlike Teamster Local 814, the Metropolitan Movers Alliance is not recognized by the NY State Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York, and does not provide their workers with a wage and benefits package that is the “prevailing wage.” This proves to be extremely critical in the case of Sony’s relocation due to the fact that the government provides Sony with enormous tax credits to help bolster the local economy. How could Sony then support their fellow New Yorkers by hiring a company that underpays and undervalues their workers? This was the message behind the rally, and this is why we gathered to say “Shame on You Sony!”
